Since the launch of Windows 10 on 29th June 2015, over a million of users upgraded their Windows 7/8/8.1 using the free upgrade.
If you are one of those who have already upgraded your Windows or plan to do so then you might know that you have to upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 8/8.1 to move on to Windows 10. Currently it is also not possible to upgrade to Windows 10 using the product key of Windows 7/8/8.1.
This decision by Microsoft have led to a certain activation issues faced by the users even if they are using a clean installation through Windows ISO.
Apparently, Microsoft has taken this issue pretty seriously because earlier this week they announced that the users can now upgrade to Windows 10 using the product key of genuine Windows 7/8/8.1. From the looks of it, millions of more users will now be able to upgrade their Windows with ease using the product key already available at their disposal.
And before you jump with joy, please note that it’s not possible to activate the currently available Windows 10 build 10240 (RTM build) by entering Windows 7/8.1 product key. The feature has been incorporated in build 10565 which is currently being tested by Windows Insiders.
Nevertheless, in a couple of few the build will be released officially and anyone will be able to upgrade their PC easily. All we have to do is be a little patient.
Note: This method is only applicable if you have a genuine Windows 7/8/8.1 running on your system. This will NOT work if your Windows are not genuine.
How to activate Windows 10 with Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 product key:
Step 1: Opening Settings options and click on Update and Security.
Step 2: Click Activation followed by Change Product Key.
Step 3: Enter your genuine Windows 7/8/8.1 product key and then click Next for the activation process to begin.
And it’s done!!!
While using a clean installation process with the help of ISO, DVD or USB, enter the product key of genuine windows 7/8/8.1 when you get to that part.
All the best and enjoy your new Windows 10!
