How to Enable or Disable Graphical Boot Menu in Windows 10


The bootloader or graphical boot menu came into existence with Windows 8 and is also the default bootloader for Windows 10. It has been improved and updated with Windows 10 allowing you to easily access startup options and troubleshooting tools. The new graphical metro boot or modern boot can easily be navigated via touch pad or a mouse making it simpler and just a touch away.

Even with all the advance features the new boot menu has to offer, many users still prefer using the black and white version. It is pretty easy to enable and disable the new Graphical Boot Menu. You simply need a command to execute in Command Prompt to enable or disable new boot menu in windows 10. It can also be done through EasyBCD 2.3 for Windows 10.

Step 1:  Open Command Prompt with administrator rights. Type Command Prompt or simply CMD in Start menu or taskbar search box, right-click on Command Prompt entry and then select Run as administrator option.


Step 2: In the elevated prompt type following commands to enable or disable the graphical boot loader.

To enable the graphical boot menu:

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard

To disable the graphical boot menu:

bcdedit /set “{current}” bootmenupolicy legacy


Step 3: Close Command Prompt and restart your PC to see the changes.

Method 2 – Enable or Disable Graphical Boot Menu via EasyBCD

Step 1: Visit here and download EasyBCD 2.3 or newer version. Older versions of EasyBCD doesn’t support enabling or disabling the graphical boot menu in Windows 10.

Step 2: Run the setup file and Install EasyBCD. Once the installation completes open Launch EasyBCD and open Edit Boot Menu.

Step 3: Check the option labelled Metro bootloader to enable the graphical boot menu and uncheck the same to disable graphical boot loader. Click Save settings to turn on/off the graphical boot menu.
