Both Windows 7 and Vista displays a search box at the bottom of the Start menu. However in Windows 10 the search box has been dropped. The search box now appears on the taskbar but can be removed to free up space.
Many users have asked for methods to include search box in the start menu as to some the menu look incomplete and they don’t like to tap on the search box on the taskbar every time they want to make a search.
You can use Start menu search without the search box or search icon
In Windows 10 you can just search for any item you want without the search box. Simply just open the start menu and start typing for the file, folder or program you are looking for and the Windows will show all the related results.
Add a search box to Start menu
If you still want your start menu in Windows 10 to show the search menu try using third party tools like Classic Shell, Start10, StartIsBlack+++. Classic Shell is really good and it’s free while the other are not.
Classic Shell is more or less like the Windows 7 search box.
Currently there is no proper method to add a search box in Windows 10 so we suggest that the user first try using the Start menu search feature before going ahead with the third party software.
