Mobile hotspot is a feature which lets you share you internet connection with other devices without having to install third-party Wi-Fi hotspot creating software.

Windows 10 Anniversary has made it a little bit easier to create mobile hotspot. You no longer have to execute commands from to enable Wi-Fi hotspot. All you have to do is navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot to share your internet connection with other devices.

When you enable mobile hotspot on your , it automatically sets a network name (SSID) and password for the Wi-Fi hotspot. Using that network and password, one can connect to the mobile hotspot from any device which has Wi-Fi.

Windows 10 sets a strong password by default but you might wasn’t to change mobile hotspot SSID (name) as well as password for your own reasons.

Change mobile hotspot name and password

This feature was introduced in the Anniversary Update for 10 so make sure you are updated to the required version.

Step 1: Open the Settings app. Navigate to Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot.

Step 2: Under Mobile hotspot section, you can see the current SSID (name of the Wi-Fi hotspot name) and password. To change mobile hotspot name or password or both, click the Edit button.

Step 3: Enter a new network name and then enter a new password for the network. Click Save button. Note that the password must be of at least 8 characters.
