Download folder is the default folder in which everything you download from the browser is stored unless or until you change the location.
Downloads folder opening slowly?
You are likely to have hundreds of files and folders in the download folder and if you do have that many files in your folder, the folder is likely to open slowly or sometimes very slowly.
You might have observed this problem beforehand that the folder takes its own time specially when there are quite a lot files in the folder or you are accessing the folder after a PC reboot or even when you are accessing the folder after a long time.
Following are the instructions to what you can do to solve the above problems.
Fix to slow opening of Downloads folder in Windows 10
Step 1: Open File Explorer or This PC.
Step 2: On the right side is the navigation panel, look for the download folder, right-click on it and then click on properties.
Step 3: Now click on the heading named Customize.
Step 4: Under Optimize this folder for section, select General items from the drop-down menu.
Also check the box labelled Also apply this template to all subfolders.
By default the Windows treats the Download folder as a picture folder and tries to create thumbnail for each and every file hence taking more time.
Step 5: Click Apply and then OK.
Now restart your PC and you are good to go.
You can also try changing the view settings of the folder to details by opening the Download folder and pressing Ctrl + Shift + 6 or click on the view settings on the top of the window.
