The upgrade to Windows 10 is a new experience for everyone and users have liked the new layout and the way it works. But like its advantages it unfortunately also has its disadvantages as there are variety of issues users are facing after upgrading. CD/DVD drive icon missing or not showing in Windows 10 File Explorer & This PC.
Many user have complained that the CD/DVD icon is missing after the upgrade. The icon doesn’t show in This PC or the navigation panel of file explorer.
Users who have also performed the clean install of the windows has faced the same problem as the icon is missing. But restoring the icon is quite easy and the issue can be sorted in less than 5 minutes.
Method 1 of 2
Restore CD/DVD drive icon using Command Prompt
Step 1: Right-click on the start menu and open Command Prompt as administrator.
You can also type CMD in the start menu and then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter keys to open Command Prompt as admin.
Step 2: Enter the following command and press enter.
eg.exe add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0” /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
After pressing enter you will see “The operation completed successfully” message. You should close the command prompt and the CD/DVD icon should now be visible.
Step 1: Visit https://rizonesoft.com/downloads/ and download DVD DRIVE REPAIR software. Extract the zip file.
Step 2: Double-click on the software to run it. There will be no installation as it’s a portable software.
If you are running 64-bit windows 10 make sure to run DVDDrive_x64 instead of DVDRepair.
Step 3: Launch the tool and click Repair DVD drive button.
Step 4: Restart the PC and you should get the missing icon right where they belong.
