Skype is one of the widely used program to stay in touch with family and friends. Although it is available as an app too but I guess it is not the same as using it on your PC. And with it just adds a lot to the overall experience.

Skype icon on the taskbar

In 10, by default, Skype start when you start your PC and the icon stays on the taskbar for easy access. Because of this when you try to close Skype or right-click on the icon and click close windows, the icon stays there and nothing really happens. Which, by the way is pretty annoying at times.

Whereas right-clicking on the icon and selecting “Quit Program” simply closes the program and this would mean it won’t be running in the background to notify you when a new call or message comes in. This, I am guessing, is not a pretty smart move.

There are millions or users who have no issues with the icon just hanging there on the taskbar but some of us would like to free up some space.

Move Skype icon from taskbar to system tray

The idea of moving Skype icon from the taskbar without actually quitting the program sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? If you have been all over the internet trying to figure out a way and haven’t been able to find one then you have come to the right place. One thing that I can assure you is that you CAN remove the icon from taskbar without terminating Skype entirely and also without the help of a third-party utility. This tutorial has got you covered.

Remove Skype icon from Windows 10 taskbar

Step 1: Launch Skype. Click Tools menu and then click Options.

Step 2: Click Advanced settings tab.

Step 3: Uncheck and save option labelled as “Keep Skype in the taskbar while I’m singed in” on the right side of the screen.

And we are all done! Simple and easy!

After doing this you will stay singed in as long as you want to without the icon appearing on your taskbar. Skype will continue running in the background and you will get all your notifications promptly. To completely quit Skype, right-click on Skype icon in the system tray and then click Quit option.
